Softball Game Preview: Rockcastle County Rockets vs. Pulaski County Maroons

For the second straight game, Rockcastle County will face off against Pulaski County. The Rockets will host the Maroons at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

Rockcastle County will bounce into Tuesday's match after beating Pulaski County, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. The Rockets won by a run and slipped past the Maroons 4-3. While the Rockets didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-27), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Sydney Holcomb spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on five hits and racked up seven Ks. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.1 strikeouts per game.

On the hitting side, Rockcastle County saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kelsey Maupin, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Those two hits gave Maupin a new career-high. Another was Lauren Hensley, who scored a run while going 3-for-4.

Rockcastle County pushed their record up to 10-7-1 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Pulaski County, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last nine contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-10 record this season.
