Softball Game Preview: Northeast Jones Tigers vs. Mize Bulldogs

The Northeast Jones Tigers will head out to square off against the Mize Bulldogs at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Northeast Jones' favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last three games.

Last Friday, Northeast Jones made easy work of Seminary and carried off a 14-3 victory. The Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matches by 11 runs or more this season.

Ty'Kerria Caballero made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and only two hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Caballero was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4. She also put up a double, which washer first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Taylor Landrum, who scored a run while going 3-for-3. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (three). Kylinn Vice was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-3.

Northeast Jones was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .375 or higher in three consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Mize lost 19-7 to Sebastopol on Thursday. The Bulldogs have struggled against the Bobcats recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.

Lila Gordon stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: she scored two runs while going 1-for-2. Another player making a difference was Kate Sullivan, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

Northeast Jones' record now sits at 4-1. As for Mize, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.

Northeast Jones took their win against Mize when the teams last played back in February of 2024 by a conclusive 18-5. Will Northeast Jones repeat their success, or does Mize have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
