The Holy Cross Crusaders will challenge the Old Forge Blue Devils at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Holy Cross has now lost eight straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since the 2nd.
Riverside hit Holy Cross with a four-run second inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Crusaders came up short against the Vikings, falling 10-1.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Old Forge, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 13-3 margin over Western Wayne on Monday. The result was nothing new for the Blue Devils, who have now won five games by six runs or more so far this season.
TJ DiMattia made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits (and only one walk). He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one home run and three RBI.
In other batting news, Jake Iacavazzi was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three runs, two RBI, and one double. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. Luke Olivieri was another key player, going 2-for-3 with four RBI and one double.
Old Forge was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .407. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Western Wayne only posted a batting average of .273.
Old Forge pushed their record up to 10-4 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Holy Cross, their loss dropped their record down to 4-10.
