Basketball Recap: Savannah Rountree's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Barnwell over Whale Branch

Barnwell lost a heartbreaker to Whale Branch when they met back in February of 2020, and they left with a heavy heart again on Tuesday. The Barnwell Warhorses fell to the Whale Branch Warriors 27-22. The loss continues a trend for the Warhorses in their matchups with the Warriors: they've now lost four in a row.

Several Warhorses players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Savannah Rountree, who posted seven points. The team also got some help courtesy of Sa'Mya Ford, who had five points.

Whale Branch found their leader in freshman Kelis Fields, who put up eight points along with ten boards and four blocks. Fields continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played.

Barnwell's defeat dropped their record down to 3-11. As for Whale Branch, their victory bumped their record up to 9-10.

Barnwell wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 53-25 win against Bridges Prep on the 12th. As for Whale Branch, they have also already played their next game, a 26-17 victory against Edisto on the 13th.
