Baseball Game Preview: Medina Mustangs vs. Wellsville Lions

The Medina Mustangs will take on the Wellsville Lions at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Wellsville will challenge a team with plenty of momentum: Medina extended their winning streak to 13 on Friday. The Mustangs' pitchers stepped up to hand Albion a 19-0 shutout. The Mustangs' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Preston Woodworth was a standout: he went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Aidan Papaj, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Meanwhile, Wellsville made easy work of Allegany-Limestone on Thursday and carried off a 19-0 victory. The win continues a trend for the Lions in their matchups with the Gators: they've now won seven in a row.

Wellsville's victory bumped their record up to 8-5. As for Medina, their win was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 13-0.

Medina was able to grind out a solid victory over Wellsville in their previous matchup back in June of 2024, winning 8-3. Will the Mustangs repeat their success, or do the Lions have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
