Baseball Game Preview: Mascoutah Indians vs. Herrin Tigers

The Mascoutah Indians will head out to face off against the Herrin Tigers at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Mascoutah knows how to get runs on the board -- the team has finished with ten runs or more in their past six games -- so hopefully Herrin likes a good challenge.

Mascoutah came out on top against Rochester on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive seven-run first inning. The Indians' pitchers stepped up to hand the Rockets a 10-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Indians, who have now won 17 matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Marion typically has all the answers at home, but on Monday Herrin proved too difficult a challenge. They came out on top against the Wildcats by a score of 7-2. Winning may never get old, but the Tigers sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Herrin's win was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Carter McCree, who went 2-for-5 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. That's the most hits McCree has posted since back in April.

Mascoutah has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Herrin, their win bumped their record up to 11-13.

Mascoutah came out on top in a nail-biter against Herrin in their previous matchup back in May of 2023, sneaking past 7-5. Do the Indians have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Tigers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
