Baseball Game Preview: Hollins Royals vs. Osceola Warriors

Hollins hasn't had much luck against Osceola recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Hollins Royals will be playing in front of their home fans against the Osceola Warriors at 7:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average, (Hollins: 3.5, Osceola: 4) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Hollins took a loss when they played away from home on Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Boca Ciega a 4-0 shutout. The Royals haven't had any issues with the Pirates recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive win against them.

Riley McDonald made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the first time he hasn't allowed a single hit since back in April of 2024. He was even better at the plate, scoring a run and stealing three bases while going 2-for-3. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

McDonald wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Justin Stiles, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Tyler Herbert also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Meanwhile, Osceola has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging four runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Friday. They came up short against Venice, falling 10-2.

Hollins' victory was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 3-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Osceola, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-3.
