Volleyball Recap: Loyola Academy's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Thursday

It was a good run, but Loyola Academy unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-match winning streak on Thursday. They fell 2-0 to the Fenwick Friars. The Ramblers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Friars apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in October of 2024.

Loyola Academy was not able to win a set, but it sure wasn't from a lack of trying: every set was decided by three points or less. The match finished with set scores of 25-22, 27-25.

Fenwick got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was SOFIA GROSSMAN out in front who had three digs and two aces. What's more, GROSSMAN racked up 14 assists, the most she's had since back in September.

Loyola Academy's loss dropped their record down to 18-11. As for Fenwick, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-10 record this season.

Loyola Academy and Fenwick could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. The Ramblers will take on Lockport at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday with a big rank disadvantage (43 vs. 8). Meanwhile, Fenwick (ranked 63rd) will meet Oak Park-River Forest (ranked 15th) at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
