Basketball Game Preview: Chester Yellowjackets vs. Brookeland Wildcats

Chester is 0-5 against Brookeland since January of 2016 but things could change on Friday. The Chester Yellowjackets will welcome the Brookeland Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Chester's tournament run continued when they took on Broaddus on Saturday. Chester was outmatched by Broaddus and fell 70-39. The Yellowjackets have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, Brookeland was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Thursday as they fell 65-60 to Evadale. The loss continues a trend for the Wildcats in their matchups with the Rebels: they've now lost three in a row.

Chester will have to contain Cade Morgan as he made an impact in Brookeland's last game. He dropped a double-double on 22 points and 18 boards. Morgan's evening made it 11 games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Landon Smith, who posted 16 points and five assists.

Even though they lost, Brookeland smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 20 consecutive matches.

Brookeland's defeat dropped their record down to 13-7. As for Chester, their loss dropped their record down to 3-9.

Chester took a serious blow against Brookeland when the teams last played back in February of 2024, falling 78-30. Can Chester avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
