Softball Recap: Berwick Comes Up Short

Berwick was the 8-5 winner over Wilkes-Barre when they last played one another back in March of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. Berwick fell 10-6 to Wilkes-Barre on Friday.

Makayla Brown spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and six unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Emma Welsh was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run while going 4-for-4. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Yaritza Rivas, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.

Berwick now has a losing record of 1-2. As for Wilkes-Barre, the victory got them back to even at 1-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Berwick will face off against Hazleton Area at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Wilkes-Barre, they will challenge Lake-Lehman at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
