Recap: Gadsden County Jaguars vs. Suwannee Bulldogs
This season hasn't been kind to the Gadsden County Jaguars, who are still winless after their fourth match. They suffered a tough 55-31 defeat at the hands of Suwannee on Thursday. While losing is never fun, Gadsden County can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 396th, while Suwannee is ranked 146th).
Gadsden County's loss came despite strong showings from Eliana Key and Jahyria Dillard. Key scored 3 points along with 8 rebounds, while Dillard scored 8 points along with 8 rebounds and 8 steals. Dillard scored a full 25.8% of Gadsden County's points, the second time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
It was another big night for Shadavia Jones, who scored 18 points for Suwannee. That makes it four consecutive games in which Jones has scored at least 25% of Suwannee's points. Janiah Mitchell was another key contributor, scoring 10 points.
Gadsden County's loss dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Suwannee, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-1.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Gadsden County will take on Taylor County at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Suwannee, they will head out on the road to face off against Hamilton County at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday.
