Softball Game Preview: Carmel Greyhounds vs. Guerin Catholic Golden Eagles

The Carmel Greyhounds will face off against the Guerin Catholic Golden Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Guerin Catholic took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Carmel, who comes in off a win.

Carmel will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up two runs on Saturday, then bounced right back against Tri-West Hendricks on Thursday. The Greyhounds walked away with a 12-8 win over the Bruins.

Chelsea Bennett looked comfortable as she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, she posted three strikeouts, the most she's had since back in May of 2024.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Jayden Kleiner, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and two doubles. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Mia Fleming, who went 3-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 16 runs the game before, Guerin Catholic was a bit more limited in their contest on Wednesday. They fell 6-2 to Hamilton Heights. The defeat continues a trend for the Golden Eagles in their meetings with the Huskies: they've now lost three in a row.

Lucy Kemp made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

Guerin Catholic's loss dropped their record down to 6-5. As for Carmel, their victory bumped their record up to 4-12.

Everything went Carmel's way against Guerin Catholic when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Carmel made off with a 14-0 win. Will the Greyhounds repeat their success, or do the Golden Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
