Preview: Crystal City Javelinas vs. Lytle Pirates

The Crystal City Javelinas will head out on the road to take on the Lytle Pirates at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Crystal City will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 926th, while Lytle is ranked 369th).

Crystal City unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Friday. They fell to Hondo 47-43.

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Lyndsie Bosquez, who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. She is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 15 or more in the last five games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Riyannah Mena, who scored 13 points.

Meanwhile, Lytle put the finishing touches on their tenth blowout victory of the season on Tuesday. They breezed by Hondo on the road to the tune of 69-39. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory Lytle has posted since November 30, 2023.

Calyssa Sevier continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a triple-double on 22 points, 13 rebounds, and ten assists. Sevier is absolutely dominating the point category: she's posted at least 15 every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Aliana Cardenas, who scored 13 points along with seven rebounds and three steals.

Crystal City's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 13-13. As for Lytle, they have been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 20-7 record this season.

This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Crystal City have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 38.4 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Lytle struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 35.8 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.

Crystal City took a serious blow against Lytle when the teams last played back in February of 2023, falling 68-32. Can Crystal City avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
