Basketball Recap: Smoky Mountain Falls Despite Big Games from Ace Prenger and Custer Prenger

After flying high against Rosman last Wednesday, Smoky Mountain came back down to earth. The Smoky Mountain Mustangs took a 65-60 hit to the loss column at the hands of the North Henderson Knights. The Mustangs were probably out for revenge after losing 70-64 to them when the teams met back in January of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Despite the loss, Smoky Mountain had strong showings from Custer Prenger, who went 6 of 13 on his way to 16 points in addition to eight boards and three steals, and Ace Prenger, who went 5 for 12 en route to 18 points along with six rebounds and five assists. The dominant performance also gave Ace a new career-high in blocks (two). Another player making a difference was Lane Plemmons, who posted 11 points.

North Henderson's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brayden Hudson, who scored 12 points. Caleb Heiny was another key player, going 5 of 11 en route to 15 points.

Smoky Mountain now has a losing record at 9-10. As for North Henderson, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-8.

Smoky Mountain has already played their next matchup, a 66-47 win against West Henderson on the 28th. As for North Henderson, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 69-61 victory against Tuscola on the 28th.
