Basketball Recap: Garden County Eagles vs. Leyton Warriors

Garden County lost against Leyton back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Garden County Eagles took a blow against the Leyton Warriors, falling 71-42. The Eagles were down 52-29 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

Several Eagles players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Karma Peterson, who posted eight points and seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Korryn Beberniss, who earned eight points and six boards.

Even though they lost, Garden County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in 24 consecutive contests dating back to last season.

It was another big night for Zaili Benish, who almost dropped a double-double with 32 points and nine assists for Leyton. The match was Benish's 31st in a row with at least 15 points. Shawnee Gamble was another key player, putting up 12 points in addition to seven rebounds and six assists.

Garden County's loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 12-9. As for Leyton, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 19-2.

Garden County has already played their next game, a 46-45 win against Hay Springs on the 14th. Leyton does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
