Soccer Game Preview: Avalon vs. Maranatha

The Avalon Lancers will square off against the Maranatha Minutemen at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Avalon's offense has struggled lately (the team hasn't scored more than a single goal for four straight games), a trend the team is no doubt ready to end.

Avalon managed to keep up with Southlands Christian until halftime on Friday, but things quickly went downhill from there. The Lancers lost 3-0 to the Eagles.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Maranatha, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. Their defense stepped up to hand Heritage Christian a 2-0 shutout on Tuesday. The victory was some much needed relief for Maranatha as it spelled an end to their three-match losing streak.

Caleb Freeman and Luca Youssefian scored both of Maranatha's goals, bringing their combined season tally to 18 goals.

Maranatha's win bumped their record up to 7-10-4. As for Avalon, their loss dropped their record down to 2-10-1.

Avalon suffered a grim 6-2 defeat to Maranatha in their previous meeting back in February of 2023. Can the Lancers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
