Baseball Game Preview: Irmo Yellow Jackets vs. Airport Eagles

Irmo is 0-8 against Airport since March of 2018 but things could change on Saturday. Irmo will host Airport at 4:30 p.m. The last three games Irmo has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

On Thursday, Irmo didn't have quite enough to beat River Bluff and fell 7-5. That's two games in a row now that the Yellow Jackets have lost by exactly two runs.

Jayllen Fray made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs while going 3-for-4. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Elliott Graham was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Airport came tearing into Thursday's match with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.6 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 3-2 W against the Yellow Jackets. That's two games straight that the Eagles have won by just one run.

Cash Epps spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on four hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Airport saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brice Gillette, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI. Isahia Clemons also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Airport's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Irmo, their loss dropped their record down to 7-4.
