Basketball Recap: Sunnyside extends home winning streak to 14

Basketball Recap: Sunnyside Blue Devils vs. Tucson High Magnet School Badgers

The Sunnyside Blue Devils entered their tilt with the Tucson High Magnet School Badgers with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. Sunnyside secured a 52-46 W over the Badgers on Tuesday. Given Sunnyside's advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 14th, while the Badgers are ranked 108th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Nayeli Nidez-Acu?a was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 16 points and 18 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Alana Felix, who scored ten points along with four steals.

Despite the loss, Tucson High Magnet School saw an underclassman step up: Destiney Brown dropped a double-double on 23 points and 19 rebounds. Brown is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 15 games she's played.

Sunnyside's win was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 21-3. As for Tucson High Magnet School, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 12-11.

Sunnyside will be playing at home against the Rangers at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Rincon/University focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 on Tuesday. As for Tucson High Magnet School, they will head out on the road to square off against the Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Marana focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Wednesday.
