Recap: Alamosa Mean Moose vs. Montezuma-Cortez Panthers
The Alamosa Mean Moose were the 50-39 winner over the Montezuma-Cortez Panthers when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. Alamosa ended up on the wrong side of a rough 66-43 walloping at the hands of Montezuma-Cortez on Monday. Alamosa has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Alamosa lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Morgan Ortega, who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaelin Garcia, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds.
Taylor Whited continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Montezuma-Cortez, almost dropping a double-double on 20 points and nine steals. Whited has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last seven times she's played. Another player making a difference was Milah Begay, who scored 11 points along with two steals.
Alamosa's defeat dropped their record down to 10-8. As for Montezuma-Cortez, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-6.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Alamosa will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Centauri at 5:30 p.m. on February 9th. As for Montezuma-Cortez, they will take on Dove Creek at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Dove Creek will roll in looking for their ninth straight win, something Montezuma-Cortez surely won't give up without a fight.
