Baseball Game Preview: Krum Bobcats vs. Van Alstyne Panthers

For the second straight game, Krum will face off against Van Alstyne. The Bobcats will challenge the Panthers at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Krum's pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so Van Alstyne's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Krum heads in on the heels of a playoff matchup on Thursday. They took a 5-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of Van Alstyne. The shutout was out of character for the Bobcats seeing as the last time the team failed to score was back in February.

For Van Alstyne's part, Hayden Bietz was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over seven innings pitched. Bietz has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and one double. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

Bietz wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Landon Newkirk, who went 2-for-4 with one RBI. That's the most hits Newkirk has posted since back in March.

With the win, Van Alstyne broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 12-12. As for Krum, their defeat dropped their record down to 25-9.
