Baseball Recap: Joliet West Comes Up Short

Joliet West fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Lincoln-Way East on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell 11-8 to the Griffins. The Tigers haven't had much luck with the Griffins recently, as the team has come up short the last eight times they've met.

Adrian Chavira was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and five unearned) runs off eight hits (and only one walk). He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Henry Young and Marco Rodriquez Jr. did some serious damage despite the final result: Young went 2-for-5 with two RBI, one run, and one double, while Rodriquez Jr. went 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Daniel Lukancic, who went 2-for-5 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Joliet West's defeat dropped their record down to 19-8-1. As for Lincoln-Way East, their victory was their 14th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 24-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Joliet West will head out to take on Plainfield Central at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Lincoln-Way East, they will venture away from home to challenge Lockport at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
