Basketball Recap: Cayden Williams' Big Game Can't Quite Lead King's Christian Academy over Southern Maryland Christian Academy

King's Christian Academy lost against Southern Maryland Christian Academy back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The King's Christian Academy Eagles took a 79-73 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Southern Maryland Christian Academy Mustangs.

Several Eagles players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Cayden Williams, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 13 assists. Williams has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last four times he's played. Zymere Somerville was another key player, dropping a double-double on 17 points and 13 rebounds.

Williams wasn't the only one working in the assists department: King's Christian Academy was working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Southern Maryland Christian Academy only racked up 12 assists.

Southern Maryland Christian Academy was led to victory by Johnie Griffin Lll and Aaron McGlone. Griffin Lll almost dropped a double-double on 21 points and nine boards, while McGlone almost dropped a double-double on 22 points and nine rebounds. The dominant performance gave McGlone a new career-high in boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Semaj Carter, who posted 14 points and five rebounds.

King's Christian Academy has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-17 record this season. As for Southern Maryland Christian Academy, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 15-7.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. King's Christian Academy will challenge Lanham Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Lanham Christian's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last 17 contests. As for Southern Maryland Christian Academy, they will square off against Takoma Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Southern Maryland Christian Academy is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 64.8 points per game this season.
