Baseball Recap: Berwyn/Cicero Morton Snags Fifth Victory in Last Six Games

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Downers Grove North, Berwyn/Cicero Morton was happy to have turned things around on Monday. They never let the Proviso East Pirates get on the board and left with an 8-0 victory. The Mustangs not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since March 28th (when they won 9-1).

The result came thanks to Mathew Roman's shutout, as he gave up just two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Berwyn/Cicero Morton let Jayden Vega and James Richmond run wild. Vega went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double, while Richmond went 3-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Those three hits gave Vega a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Alejandro Guzman, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

Berwyn/Cicero Morton has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 10-22 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.2 runs over those games. As for Proviso East, they are on a 22-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-24.

Berwyn/Cicero Morton will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Pirates: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
