Baseball Game Preview: Salida Spartans vs. Meeker Cowboys

The Salida Spartans will take on the Meeker Cowboys at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. Salida has given up an average of 8.4 runs per game this season, but Saturday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Salida's tournament run continued when they took on Steamboat Springs on Friday. Salida fell 13-9 to Steamboat Springs. The Spartans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Salida saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brody Hudson, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those three RBI gave Hudson a new career-high. Another was Bryce Rodrigue, who scored a run while going 1-for-4.

Meanwhile, Meeker lost 15-5 to Gunnison on Friday. The loss continues a trend for Meeker in their meetings with Gunnison: they've now lost four in a row.

Salida now has a losing record of 2-3. As for Meeker, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.

Everything went Salida's way against Meeker in their previous meeting back in April of 2022, as Salida made off with a 15-3 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Salida since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
