Two dominant backs in Andre Brisco and Tyler Cunningham are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Cabrillo Conquistadores will host the Templeton Eagles at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Cabrillo's defense heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They blew past Santa Maria, posting a 55-0 win. Given the Conquistadores' advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 408th, while the Saints are ranked 879th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Andrew Wallace had an outrageously good game as he rushed for 86 yards and one touchdown. Those 86 rushing yards gave him a new career-high. Khase Williams was another key rusher, rushing for 62 yards and one score.
Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Cabrillo proved: they limited Santa Maria to a paltry 1.3 yards per carry. While two picked up at least four total tackles, Talon Simpson stood above the rest. He made four total tackles and defended three passes in addition to snagging an interception which he returned one-yard for a touchdown. Cabrillo didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 17.3.
Cabrillo didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Simpson and Felix Hernandez. Simpson got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
The home team had won the previous three meetings between Templeton and Nipomo, and Templeton kept the tradition alive. The Eagles put the hurt on the Titans with a sharp 56-31 victory on Friday. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as the Eagles just coasted through the last quarter.
The match pitted two dominant backs against one another in Cunningham and Nick Evans. Cunningham had a great game and gained 383 total yards and seven touchdowns. Meanwhile, Evans was balling out in the loss, rushing for 236 yards while picking up 8.1 yards per carry.
Cabrillo is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-2 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 42.8 points over those games. As for Templeton, their victory bumped their record up to 8-1.
Thursday's game might be decided on the ground. Cabrillo has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 279.2 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Templeton struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 182.2 rushing yards. There's a good chance Thursday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
