Softball Recap: Hilltop Takes a Loss

After flying high against Castle Park last Monday, Hilltop came back down to earth. The Lancers came up short against the Sweetwater Red Devils on Wednesday, falling 14-3. The Lancers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Red Devils apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Natalie Wood made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to triples, as she's now hit at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Nevaeh Matos, who went 2-for-4 with one triple and one run.

Hilltop's loss dropped their record down to 5-7-1. As for Sweetwater, their victory was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-1-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hilltop will head out to take on San Ysidro at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. The Lancers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Cougars have averaged an impressive 14.8 runs per game this season. As for Sweetwater, they will venture away from home to square off against Morse at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Red Devils' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Tigers have averaged an impressive 8.5 runs per game this season.
