Basketball Game Preview: Crooms Academy Panthers vs. Lyman Greyhounds

Crooms Academy is 0-3 against Lyman since December of 2016 but things could change on Friday. The Crooms Academy Panthers will head out on the road to face off against the Lyman Greyhounds at 7:00 p.m. Crooms Academy has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.

Crooms Academy came up into this matchup off a tough 20-point loss last Tuesday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of Liberty Christian by a score of 31-29 on Friday.

Crooms Academy's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Akilah Manley, who posted 14 points, and Zoe Fulgencio, who had 11 points. That was a full 37.9% of Crooms Academy's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.

Meanwhile, Lyman was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their 13th straight loss. They had to suffer through a 58-13 loss at the hands of Lake Mary. While losing is never fun, the Greyhounds can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 606th, while the Rams are ranked 88th).

Lyman's defeat dropped their record down to 1-23. As for Crooms Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 1-9.

Crooms Academy took a serious blow against Lyman when the teams last played back in November of 2022, falling 60-10. Can Crooms Academy avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
