Softball Recap: Proviso East Comes Up Short

Proviso East had lost 11 straight at home dating back to last season, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 1-5 to make it 12. They lost 22-5 to the Jones Eagles. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Pirates of the 12-11 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in March of 2024.

Marisela Galvan was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Jazlean Hernandez, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

As for Jones, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-1. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine games by eight runs or more this season.

On Jones' side, Lucy Paskiewicz was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with six RBI, three runs, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI Paskiewicz has posted over her last five contests. Amanda Lopez was another key player, going 1-for-2 with five stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Proviso East will venture away from home to face off against Downers Grove South at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Pirates are facing the Mustangs at the right time seeing as the Mustangs are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Jones, they will head out to take on Chicago Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Cougars have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.1 runs per game on average), something the Eagles will no doubt try to take advantage of.
