Softball Game Preview: Exeter Township Eagles vs. Governor Mifflin Mustangs

The Exeter Township Eagles will venture away from home to take on the Governor Mifflin Mustangs at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Neither Exeter Township nor Governor Mifflin posted many runs in their last games, so it might be the pitching crews that decide this one.

Exeter Township came into this matchup off a tough eight-run loss on Wednesday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of Penn Manor by a score of 3-1 on Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Eagles have suffered since March 27th.

Cheyenne Boyles spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up six Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one walk in 12 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Exeter Township saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mackenzie O'Brien, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base. O'Brien is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played.

Meanwhile, Governor Mifflin was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They came up short against Lampeter-Strasburg, falling 15-0.

Exeter Township's defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 5-10. As for Governor Mifflin, their loss dropped their record down to 1-13.

Everything went Exeter Township's way against Governor Mifflin when the teams last played back in March, as Exeter Township made off with a 13-3 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
