Volleyball Recap: Morrill Takes a Loss

It was a proper cat-fight when Morrill duked it out with Cross County on Saturday. The Lions fell just short of the Cougars by a score of 3-2. While the Lions didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Cougars 25-18 in the first set.

The defeat didn't mean the game wasn't competitive: Cross County scored at least 14 points in every set. The match finished with set scores of 18-25, 25-18, 25-22, 20-25, 16-14.

Morrill's offense was headlined by Mersaydez Carrizales and Katelyn Walker, who picked up 19 kills apiece. They got some help from Makayla Dykes and her 23 assists. Madisyn Carrizales controlled things from the service line, finishing with five aces.

Morrill's loss dropped their record down to 24-5. As for Cross County, they are on a roll lately: they've won 15 of their last 16 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 26-8 record this season.

Morrill does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Cross County, they will square off against Amherst at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday.
