Basketball Recap: Hinkley Takes a Loss

Hinkley was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their 20th straight loss dating back to last season. They fell 56-47 to the Pueblo Centennial Bulldogs.

When it comes to explaining why Hinkley lost, don't look at Malachi Holden. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 26 points and 17 boards. Those 26 points gave Holden a new career-high. Qwanarias Moorelake was another key player, putting up six points along with 19 rebounds and seven blocks.

Even though they lost, Hinkley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 23 offensive rebounds. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 7.7 offensive boards per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 13.2.

Hinkley's defeat dropped their record down to 0-17. As for Pueblo Centennial, their win bumped their record up to 6-12.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hinkley will face off against Thomas Jefferson at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Thomas Jefferson knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past six matches -- so hopefully Hinkley likes a good challenge. As for Pueblo Centennial, they will head out on the road to face off against Pueblo County at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Pueblo Centennial is facing Pueblo County at the right time seeing as Pueblo County is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
