Basketball Game Preview: Patrick Henry Patriots vs. Varina Blue Devils

Patrick Henry and Varina are an even 5-5 against one another since December of 2017, but not for long. Having just played yesterday, the Patrick Henry Patriots will get right back to it and host the Varina Blue Devils at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Varina took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Patrick Henry, who comes in off a win.

Patrick Henry is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They breezed by Charles City to the tune of 57-15 on Monday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Patriots as it put an end to their five-game losing streak.

Meanwhile, Varina was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were dealt an 82-18 loss at the hands of Highland Springs. The Blue Devils were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 52-10.

Patrick Henry will have to keep a close watch on Kya Ingram and Solai Coleman, a pair of players who had a big impact on Varina's prior game. Ingram posted four points in addition to six boards, five assists, and five steals, while Coleman scored eight points along with 11 rebounds and four steals. Coleman is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down ten or more in the last eight games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaliyah Straughter, who put up two points and ten rebounds.

Even though they lost, Varina smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 23 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive boards in nine consecutive contests.

Patrick Henry's win bumped their record up to 2-12. As for Varina, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-7.
