Softball Recap: Old Forge Blue Devils vs. Halifax Wildcats
It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Old Forge had no problem doing just that on Thursday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Halifax Wildcats a 15-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for Old Forge, who have now won 12 matches by six runs or more so far this season.
Karen Sickle looked comfortable as she didn't allow a single earned run and only one hit while striking out eight over four innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 11 consecutive pitching appearances.
On the hitting side, Talia Piragas was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Meghan Marianelli, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and a double.
The win (which was Old Forge's third in a row) raised their record to 18-5. As for Halifax, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-13 record this season.
