Preview: Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North Raiders vs. Vela Sabercats
The Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North Raiders will head out on the road to face off against the Vela Sabercats at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the pair will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Tuesday, Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North made easy work of Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Southwest and carried off a 59-38 win. That 59-38 margin sets a new team best for Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North this season.
Cruz Fabela was the offensive standout of the game as he scored 14 points along with five rebounds and three steals. He set a new season high mark in blocks with three. The team also got some help courtesy of Bryan Guerrero, who scored 15 points.
Meanwhile, Vela waltzed into their game Tuesday with two straight wins but they left with three. The stars were shining brightly for them in a 58-41 win over Rowe. Given Vela's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 139th, while Rowe is ranked 406th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North's win ended a five-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 6-10. As for Vela, their win was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 16-5.
Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North came up short against Vela when the teams last played back in January, falling 73-63. Can Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
