Volleyball Recap: Southside Cardinals vs. Saint Mary's Hall Barons

Southside was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 14th straight defeat. They came up short against the Saint Mary's Hall Barons, falling 3-0. The Cardinals were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Barons apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in August of 2022.

While Southside was not able to make it on the board, they still kept things close, especially in the first set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-23, 25-7, 25-20.

Katie Camarillo paced Southside's offense, picking up ten kills. Camarillo got some help from Gabriella Galindo and her 19 assists. Camarillo was also solid from the service line: she led the team with two aces.

Breanna Benavides produced another solid performance getting 24 digs and nine aces for Saint Mary's Hall. Benavides is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had ten or more in each of the last 48 games she's played dating back to last season.

Southside's defeat dropped their record down to 3-21. As for Saint Mary's Hall, they have been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-4 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Southside will challenge South San Antonio at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Saint Mary's Hall, they will take on St. Augustine at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
