Basketball Game Preview: West Grand Mustangs vs. Rangely Panthers

West Grand hasn't had much luck against Rangely recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. Having just played yesterday, the Mustangs will head out on the road to face off against the Panthers at 4:00 p.m. West Grand has given up an average of 53.2 points per game this season, but Saturday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

On Friday, West Grand ended up a good deal behind Hayden and lost 78-59. The Mustangs were down 66-40 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Despite the defeat, West Grand got top-tier performance from Sanjay Geffers, who dropped a double-double with 30 points and 11 rebounds. Geffers has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last seven times he's played. Another player making a difference was Stran Lechman, who posted eight points along with 17 boards and six assists.

Meanwhile, Rangely played a tough matchup on Thursday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were beaten by Olathe 65-38. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 306th, while the Pirates are ranked 132nd).

West Grand's loss dropped their record down to 5-14. As for Rangely, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-11.

West Grand came up short against Rangely when the teams last played back in February of 2025, falling 38-31. Can the Mustangs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
