Football Recap: Early Longhorns vs. Clifton Cubs

Early was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They and the Clifton Cubs were almost perfectly matched up, but the Early Longhorns suffered a 26-25 defeat. Despite 114 more yards than the Cubs, the Longhorns couldn't convert that extra yardage to scores.

Even though they lost, Early was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 254 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in November of 2023.

Early wouldn't let Clifton keep a hold of the ball as they managed to force two fumbles. Early can thank Andrew Reedy and Mario Vasquez for forcing both of them. Vasquez is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made seven or more in the last seven games he's played dating back to last season.

Among those leading the charge was James Liardon, who rushed for 69 yards and a touchdown on only six carries. His longest rush was for an impressive 52 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total.

Early's loss dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Clifton, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 5-2.

Early is taking a road trip to square off against Brady at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Brady will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something Early surely won't give up without a fight. As for Clifton, they will welcome Tolar at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Tolar knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 31 points or more in their past three matches -- so hopefully Clifton likes a good challenge.
