Basketball Game Preview: Kosciusko Whippets vs. Leake Central Gators

Kosciusko and Leake Central are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2021, but not for long. The Whippets will be playing at home against the Gators at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Kosciusko took a loss when they played away from home on Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They breezed past Newton County to the tune of 100-65. With the Whippets ahead 46-25 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.

Kosciusko's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Cory Guyton Jr led the charge by shooting 62% from the field on his way to 25 points. The contest was Guyton Jr's ninth in a row with at least 20 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaybre Pierce, who almost dropped a double-double with 20 points and nine boards.

Kosciusko smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in December of 2024.

Meanwhile, Leake Central came tearing into Tuesday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 24.3 points), and they left with even more momentum. Everything went their way against the Arrows as they made off with an 86-65 victory. The Gators' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Kosciusko's win bumped their record up to 8-1. As for Leake Central, their victory bumped their record up to 6-4.

Kosciusko barely slipped by Leake Central in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, winning 62-61. Will the Whippets repeat their success, or do the Gators have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
