Football Recap: Esperanza Aztecs vs. Brea Olinda Wildcats

Esperanza lost against Brea Olinda back in November of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Aztecs were just a hair shy of victory and fell 28-27 to the Wildcats. The Aztecs were up 21-7 in the second quarter but couldn't hold on to the lead.

Esperanza's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jordan Sicard, who picked up 132 receiving yards and one score. Sicard got the majority of those receiving yards when he pulled down a pass and took off for a gain of 84 yards. Travis Frazier was another key player, having thrown for 283 yards and three touchdowns.

Gavyn Nicholson had another great game (as he tends to do), throwing for 245 yards and three touchdowns, while also rushing for 51 yards and one TD for Brea Olinda. That's the most passing touchdowns Nicholson has posted since back in August. Brea Olinda's leading receiver Ryan Nero was Nicholson's top target yet again, picking up 113 receiving yards and one score.

Esperanza has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season. As for Brea Olinda, their victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-3.

As of now, neither Esperanza nor the Wildcats have any future games scheduled.
