Softball Recap: Marlboro County Takes a Loss

Marlboro County fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Darlington on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Falcons by a score of 5-4. The Bulldogs' defeat continues a trend for the squad, making it six in a row.

Abby Quick spent all nine innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on five hits and racked up ten Ks.

On the hitting side, Amir Bridges made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole three bases while going 1-for-5. Another player making a difference was Addison Skipper, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one double.

Marlboro County's loss dropped their record down to 3-11. As for Darlington, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 10-5.

Coming up, Marlboro County will welcome Loris at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bulldogs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Lions have averaged an impressive 6.7 runs per game this season. As for Darlington, they will venture away from home to square off against Crestwood at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
