The Pioneer Panthers will head out to take on the Caston Comets at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Pioneer is coming into the game hot, having won their last four games.
On Monday, it was close, but Pioneer sidestepped Knox for a 6-5 win. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Panthers have posted against the Redskins since April 20, 2016.
Katelynn Haynes spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Addison Kennell, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. Lois Layer was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Caston fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Argos on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Dragons by a score of 6-5. Surprisingly, this marked the Comets' fifth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.
Kylee Logan was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season.
Pioneer's win bumped their record up to 18-10. As for Caston, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups. That lines up perfectly with their 5-15 record this season.
Caston's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Pioneer hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .370. It's a different story for Caston, though, as they've only averaged .244. Will they be able to contain Pioneer's hitters?
Pioneer couldn't quite get it done against Caston in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 as they fell 5-1. Can the Panthers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
