Softball Game Preview: Athens Warriors vs. Maroa-Forsyth Trojans

Athens is 1-7 against Maroa-Forsyth since March of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Warriors will host the Trojans at 4:30 p.m.

Athens had been on a three-game streak of scoring at least ten runs, but Auburn put an end to it on Tuesday. The Warriors came up short against the Trojans, falling 7-0. The game marked the first time this year in which the Warriors were not able to get on the board.

Meanwhile, Maroa-Forsyth entered their tilt with PORTA/Ashland-Chandlerville Central on Tuesday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They were the clear victors by an 8-2 margin over the Bluejays. The Trojans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matchups by six runs or more this season.

Danni Hovey spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on five hits.

At the plate, Maroa-Forsyth got a big performance out of Peyton Torbert, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double. Another player making a difference was Lainey Larner, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.

Torbert wasn't the only one making solid contact: Maroa-Forsyth kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in three consecutive contests.

Maroa-Forsyth pushed their record up to 6-2 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Athens, their loss dropped their record down to 3-2.
