Basketball Recap: Swansboro Pirates vs. Dixon Bulldogs
The Swansboro Pirates came tearing into Thursday's match with 17 straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 21.6 points) and they left with even more momentum. Everything went their way against Dixon as Swansboro made off with a 80-55 victory. Swansboro has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine matchups by 20 points or more this season.
Leading Swansboro to victory were Jonah Holt and Jermaine Cunningham. Holt scored 13 points along with five rebounds and two steals, while Cunningham almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine rebounds. Another player making a difference was Jacob Nagler, who scored eight points along with two steals.
Several Bulldogs players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Cooper Tozier, who almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Grady Adams, who scored 18 points.
Swansboro's victory was their tenth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 19-1. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 78.4 points per game. As for Dixon, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-14.
Swansboro will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against the Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. Richlands will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 455th, while the Pirates are ranked 38th). As for Dixon, they will head out on the road to square off against the Cougars at 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Croatan focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up nine on Friday.
