Softball Recap: Vestavia Hills Takes a Loss

Vestavia Hills extended their losing streak to four on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 11-18-1 in the process. They lost 9-1 to the Central Red Devils. The Rebels were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Red Devils apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2021.

As for Central, the win was the 21st in a row for them, bringing their record up to 38-3. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games.

For Central's part, Allyson Supan made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Supan has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.

In other batting news, Mariah Harrison was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. She has been hot recently, having also posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Gerritt Griggs was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.

Coming up, Vestavia Hills will welcome Mountain Brook at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Central, they have already played their next match, a 7-0 win against Madison County on the 19th.
