The Cumberland Pirates will be taking part in a tournament against the Newton Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Cumberland focused on turnovers this week as the team gave up 22 on Tuesday.
After dropping their season opener at home, Newton is headed out to face a Pirates squad ready to give their home crowd a win. Cumberland took a 57-50 hit to the loss column at the hands of Vandalia. The Pirates haven't had much luck with the Vandals recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Despite their loss, Cumberland saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Cameron Roedl, who went 6 for 15 en route to 18 points plus two steals, was perhaps the best of all. The dominant performance also gave Roedl a new career-high in threes (four). Chase Stewart was another key player, going 5 for 9 en route to 15 points.
Newton kicked off their season on the road on Tuesday and hit a couple of potholes. They lost 62-38 to Dieterich.
