Basketball Game Preview: Pomeroy Pirates vs. Dayton Bulldogs

Pomeroy is 9-0 against Dayton since December of 2014 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Pomeroy Pirates will host the Dayton Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. Given that both suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.

Pomeroy is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Asotin just ended the team's four-game winning streak on Tuesday. They took a 51-39 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Panthers. While losing is never fun, the Pirates can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Washington basketball rankings (they are ranked 235th, while the Panthers are ranked 91st).

Despite the loss, Pomeroy had strong showings from Jett Slusser, who posted 16 points and eight rebounds, and Braxton McKeirnan, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 12 boards. The dominant performance gave McKeirnan a new career-high in rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Kyzer Herres, who earned eight points along with five boards and three steals.

Even though they lost, Pomeroy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 57 points the game before, Dayton was a bit more limited in their contest on Saturday. They were outmatched by Garfield-Palouse and fell 71-17. The match marked the Bulldogs' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Dayton now has a losing record at 7-8. As for Pomeroy, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-6.

Pomeroy strolled past Dayton in their previous meeting back in December of 2024 by a score of 51-37. Will Pomeroy repeat their success, or does Dayton have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
