Baseball Game Preview: Ray Bearcats vs. Anthem Prep Eagles

The Ray Bearcats are headed away from home for the first time to challenge the Anthem Prep Eagles at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

Ray lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Willcox, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Saturday's game. Ray put the hurt on Willcox with a sharp 10-2 win on Saturday. The victory was nothing new for the Bearcats as they're now sitting on five straight.

Seth Wade and Logan Rice were a major factor no matter where they played. On the mound, Wade didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. Meanwhile, Rice pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, Wade posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. At the plate, Wade scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3, while Rice scored two runs and stole a base. Rice is becoming a predictor of Ray's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 2-6 when he doesn't).

Ray hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most three strikeouts in three consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Anthem Prep, who bounced back after a loss on the road two weeks ago. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Salome a 12-0 shutout on Monday.

Brayden Fessler was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Tate Daniels, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Ray's record now sits at 5-6. As for Anthem Prep, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.
