Baseball Recap: Skyview Continues Home Dominance on Monday

While Skyview's victory against Gateway wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Wolverines narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Olympians 8-6. The victory continues a trend for the Wolverines in their matchups with the Olympians: they've now won seven in a row.

Skyview's win was truly a team effort as seven different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Isaiah Rodriguez, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, one triple, and one run. Rodriguez is becoming a predictor of the Wolverines' success: when he posts at least three hits the team is 2-1 (and 5-8 when he doesn't). Jose Godoy-Corpuz was another, going 1-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.

Skyview pushed their record up to 7-9 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Gateway, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-7 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Skyview will head out to square off against Thornton at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Wolverines are facing the Trojans at the right time seeing as the Trojans are stuck on an 18-game losing streak. As for Gateway, they are taking a road trip to challenge Overland at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Trailblazers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.65 runs per game on average), something the Olympians will no doubt try to take advantage of.
