Basketball Game Preview: St. Marys Bears vs. Silver Lake Eagles

St. Marys hasn't had much luck against Silver Lake recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The St. Marys Bears will look to defend their home court against the Silver Lake Eagles at 4:00 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

St. Marys will bounce into Friday's matchup after beating Riley County, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. St. Marys came out on top against Riley County by a score of 45-36 on Tuesday. The win was all the more spectacular given the Bears' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 121st, while the Falcons are ranked 22nd).

St. Marys had a senior duo take command as Hayden Heim went 5-for-12 en route to 15 points and eight rebounds and Isabel Hurla posted 18 points. That makes it five consecutive games in which Hurla has scored at least a third of St. Marys' points. Another player making a difference was Brianna Figge, who put up six points.

Meanwhile, Silver Lake waltzed into their game on Tuesday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They blew past the Bulldogs, posting a 58-20 victory. The Eagles have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won ten contests by 23 points or more this season.

Silver Lake's win was their 21st straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 16-2. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 30 points. As for St. Marys, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-8.
