Softball Game Preview: Clovis East Timberwolves vs. Buchanan Bears

The Clovis East Timberwolves will take on the Buchanan Bears at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Clovis East 2.8, Buchanan 3.2) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Clovis East fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Central on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Grizzlies by a score of 5-4. The Timberwolves have struggled against the Grizzlies recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meeting.

Brianna McCoy was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Destiny Baltierra, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.

Meanwhile, Buchanan faced Clovis North in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. The Bears took a 3-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Broncos. The match marked the first time this season in which the Bears were not able to get on the board.

Buchanan saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Natalee Gant, who went 1-for-3 with one double.

Clovis East's loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 13-5-1. As for Buchanan, their defeat dropped their record down to 17-6.

Clovis East came out on top in a nail-biter against Buchanan in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, sneaking past 2-0. Will the Timberwolves repeat their success, or do the Bears have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
